do you have the 10 essential image types you need as a business owner?

PRODUCTS & services

Potential clients need to know about what you offer. This also includes your workspace. If you work from home, what does that look like? If you have a commercial space, customers want to see the inside and outside.

Modern Headshot

Your headshot needs to be current and polished - no, not that image your friend took of you on their phone at a party years ago. And go beyond just head & shoulders. You need an environmental portrait showing you in your element. Think: What would be my magazine cover image if I were to be interviewed tomorrow for Forbes?

personality

What are your hobbies, interests or values? What are you like to be around?

Personality images are essential for moving customers down the know-like-trust funnel.

your process

Clients want a peek behind-the-scenes of working with you. What makes your process unique? What should they expect?

details & flat lays

Sometimes these are referred to as custom stock imagery. My approach is to still personalize the items, color palette and styling to your brand so you have bespoke imagery that's cohesive in your feed.

negative space

I can't even tell you how handy this category is, having blank spaces or negative space in the image for messages to be added later is essential.

CELEBRATION & LAUNCH

Having images that celebrate your customers on your sales completion page, on announcements and launches of new products and services, is a huge win in personalizing your marketing.

seasonal

From seasonal rhythm of the business, launches and promotions, to clothing, the goal is to have the right content well BEFORE you need it. (and to not be posting images of you in a holiday sweater in the middle of June.)

expressions

Sometimes your blog or social posts are about hard topics, or you want to show confusion or celebration. If all your current images are of you smiling at the camera, that's an image gap to address.

BANNERS & Headers

Lastly, having a set of professional looking banners and header images for places like LinkedIn, Facebook headers, website and blog will save you a TON of headaches. These can be some of the trickiest to get right, and a brand photographer like me can help you save time and hassle by planning out the compositions you need.

FAQ

personal branding vs. headshots

Headshots are typically just one image of you smiling at the camera, which is great for your LinkedIn profile. Personal branding photography is entirely different - we dive in deep to your brand identity, goals for the year, and not only how your brand is seen now, but where you want to take it. We map out brand stories, relevant props, outfits and settings that are authentic and help convey subtle visual messages to your clients. At the end you have a cohesive, brand library to pull from across all of your marketing mix: website, blogs, social media, sales information, brochures, book covers, and more.

Who needs personal brand photos?

We all have a personal brand, whether we know it or not. It's how others perceive you. The most common people needing personal branding are content creators, creatives, and small business owners of all kinds, realtors, health and wellness coaches and therapists, photographers, artists, makers, authors and course instructors, ... the list is endless.

Many individuals also get personal branding photos for their dating profiles or company's About Me slides, to go beyond a professional headshot and show more of their lifestyle and personality. If you aren't the one shaping your personal brand, it will be created for you by others.

how can i use the images?

Unlike portrait photography where you cannot alter the photographer's images in any way, brand photography is meant to help you drive your business or shape your public image, and you need the freedom to use them as you please. All images come with a commercial photo release so you can edit, alter, crop or do whatever you want with your images. I differ from some photographers in that I don't require you to credit me in the photos unless you're using them outside of your own assets. You're busy. My goal is to empower you, not slow you down by having to remember to add photo credits all across your site.

Where would the shoot happen?

This depends entirely on your brand stories and what feels authentic. First we'll look at the most obvious options: where you work, play and get inspired. I use both natural and studio lighting to ensure crisp, clean images in any setting. We can shoot in urban settings, outside coffee shops, at co-working spaces or hotels. Additionally, there are some great camera-ready spaces that are available to rent if needed so you don't have to stress if your home or home office are not on-brand for you. The locations are important to create the right aesthetic and together we'll figure out the best options.

"Seriously, the best photography investment for my business I've EVER made was working with you. I'm so grateful for these images!"
